Perkins engine number format

Perkins uses letters and numbers in their VIN numbers to mark the engine family, model, type, serial number, as well as year and place of manufacture. You may find the VIN number of your engine in two formats depending on the year of manufacture.

• Before 1974: 123 A B 123456 C D
• Since 1974: AB 12345 C 123456 D
• Currently: 2-4 letters, 3-5 numbers, 1 letter, 4-5 numbers, 1-2 letters
